This place is a gem and we would recommend it to anyone travelling to Mission Beach! The owners are the most lovely people. They prepared a handmade breakfast for us each morning. On arrival they kindly organised transport from the bus terminal and even brought us back upon departure. The rooms are amazing with a ceiling fan, large bathroom and a small fridge. There is no AC, but despite the heat in December it was enough. The whole lodge is decorated thoughtfully and kept in great shape. However, the absolute highlight is the wildlife. We saw a cassowary passing through during our breakfast, beautiful red dragonflies I'm the garden all day round, and a padmelon in the rainforest next to the garden. While a car is definitely preferable in the wide spread mission beach area, we were fine without. It possible to walk to the beach and restaurants in Wongaling within 20 minutes. Next to the large street is a broad footpath such that walking is safe as well.TL;DR Would recommend this lodge to anyone!
Cannot speak highly enough of this location and of course the lovely hosts running it. If you are after a super cosy retreat nestled into the foot of the rainforest, then this is the place for you. With cassowaries strolling through the lovely green grounds right at your doorstep, what more could you ask for.Rooms and amenities are perfect for solo or couple travelers and undercover parking is below the cabins. Perfectly placed to zip to the beach for the day or spend time by the pool or on the deck enjoying a book. Can't wait to return
Paradijsje in het regenwoud! Mooie kamer, fijne veranda, super gastheren.
We have had a great time at Licuala lodge. The personal service of Dawn is really great and she was very helpful to make alternative plan as our diving trip was cancelled. The facilities are great and with a personal touch. We were fortunate to spot kasuaris in the garden during breakfast. The high rate of this location is really correct. Thanks for the nice stay!
Absolutely superb. We stayed in the garden room, which offers a little more than the regular rooms, but everyone who stays there can experience the beautiful garden and pool, and the warm welcome and help from the owners. A luxurious, lovely experience.
The most stunning gardens and wonderful hosts. Blair and Dawn were wonderful, as is the love they put into their bit of paradise. We will be back to stay every business trip!
Absolutely beautiful. Well appointed with the only exception being air conditioning but don’t let that put you off as sleeping under the amble fans is was lovely. The gardens are gorgeous and I was treated to the sight of a Pademelon mother and Joey on arrival and met Charlie the Cassowary as I lay by the pool (safely behind the pool fence). Rooms and super clean and comfortable, kitchen and lounge available plus breakfast of the balcony overlooking the proper Surrounded by forest was magnificent. Staff are wonderful and very knowledgeable on the broader area and full of great tips to make your time in North Queensland amazing.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this bed and breakfast. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful, and the marvelous location right in the rainforest is one of a kind. Add to that the delicious breakfast overlooking the beautiful garden, and you've got a truly excellent place to stay!
One of the best B&B I have ever been. Very clean, a paradise of a garden, very friendly hosts, best breakfast of our trip with homemade bread and fruits from the garden - highly recommended 5/5
This was the most amazing setting in a quiet spot but still close to amenities. The room was stunning. Clean, actually immaculate and beautifully decorated. The hosts Blair and Dawn were extremely friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included as well. We’re sad we are only here for 1 night on our way home. Thoroughly recommend this place. If heading back this way will certainly stay here for more than 1 nightGarry and Dimi
Assolutamente consigliato!
Licuala Lodge is our kind of place to stay. The gardens are special, the breakfast is delicious (especially the fruit salad and homemade bread), Dawn and Blair are caring and genial hosts, the location is great, the room well presented and clean, the environmental ethos is excellent and we got cassowaries for free. Who could ask for more. 5 out of 5 all the way.
We stayed for 3 nights in June. The setting is superb, backing onto the rainforest, with a beautiful garden and cassowary wandering through. The room was spotless and very comfortable and the breakfast was superb. We want to go back!
Where to start? Firstly, our hosts Dawn and Blair make you so welcome and in a very relaxed way. They are lovely people! Secondly our room and en suite bathroom were bright, fresh and spotlessly clean. It was a beautiful and conformable room. Breakfasts on the top verandah and a chat with Dawn made it like staying with friends. We have already decided that next time we are in Queensland we will stay here more than 3 days, probably a week and explore the places we have yet to see. Btw, Dawn and Blair are well connected with local tourism businesses and can help with what to do and where to go.Andrew and Anne
My husband & I stayed (May, 2022) in the largest room which was well priced & included a private entrance plus a porch & patio. There are also spacious common areas for all guests & lovely grounds with a great pool. Breakfasts are delicious whether you have the one included with your room or a full cooked breakfast. The hostess was helpful to all guests in any way she could be. She even got us dinner reservations in a very full & popular restaurant. We enjoyed getting to know her a bit during our 3 night stay. Highly recommend this B&B!
Our stay at Licuala Lodge was fantastic. We stayed for 2 nights and Dawn and Blair were very welcoming to us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. They provided us with loads of local tips on where to eat, drink, hike and even visit on our drive up to Cape Trib. The breakfast provided was delicious with fruits picked from the garden and was a great experience to have a mother Cassowary and her chicks stroll through the gardens each morning.I was meant to write this review over a year ago whilst my partner and I were travelling far north QLD over Easter 2021 but better late than never! Thanks for the hospitality Dawn and Blair. Hope all is well and to anyone looking to stay around Mission Beach, we recommend the Licaula Lodge!
Simply wonderfully refreshing tranquil low key stay. The room is clean, the bed comfy and the shower hot. The surrounding garden is an oasis of colour and the encroaching rainforest gives the property a far away feel. Dawn and Blair are are friendly and welcoming hosts who should be rightfully proud of what they have achieved with Licuala Lodge. Would i stay here again? Yes i would and so should you. Cheers Susi
This was the best accomodation we had so far in Australia and a perfect start to our holiday. The house was lovely, with a beautiful garden and we even got to see some local wildlife (we were lucky enough to see a young cassowary). The couple that runs the place is incredible welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast is served with a smile, on the sunny balcony with a gorgeous view of the garden, freshly cooked and super tasty with homemade bread and cake. This accomodation is quiet and perfect to relax and unwind, but if you need a bit more action, Mission beach is just a stone throw away. Would recommend to everyone and we will definitely stay again!
Once you drive past the tacky, outdated sign you find yourself in a real hidden gem.Very charming, clean and comfortable accommodation surrounded by a very creative and well maintained garden. We came to mission beach as to see the wonders, however after a brief walk around the beach and town weCouldnt wait to return to Lucuala to relax in what we thought was just a very rare and beautiful atmosphere. The hosts were very lovely and accommodating while also giving you healthy amount of space which some enthusiastic bnb owners struggle with.Breakfast was fantastic, seasonal tropical fruit and tasty hot breakfast as well as mini bar options at cost price.Cassowaries roam the gardens.Look no further.
This place is an absolute delight! Dawn and Blair are wonderful hosts with in depth local knowledge and offered an excellent service. They successfully build a sense of community among their guests and were truly great to get to know. The place itself is magical with an incredible garden as well as being surrounded by rainforest. We enjoyed the orninga with breakfast on thr balcony, watching the birdlife. We were also lucky enought to spot a cassowary in the grounds during our stay! For us this was a home away from home after being on the road for 8 weeks. The place is super clean with thoughtful touches that make it comfortable and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the King room. Thanks again to Dawn and Blair for their excellent hospitality.
My partner and I recently spent 5 nights at Licuala Lodge, and we had an amazing time. Dawn and Blair were very personable hosts. They tended to our every need and provided us with many suggestions of places to visit and things to do. Their hospitality really enhanced our stay at Mission Beach and helped us get the most out of our time there. The homemade bread and cakes, as well as the fruit bowl were delicious. We were also stoked to see the resident wild cassowary and his chick's wander through the grounds on multiple occasions. Our stay here was truly a treat. Naz and Andrew
Home away from home. Location spot on. Breakfast incredible choice of food. Hosts couldn't have wish for more. Nothing was a problem. Blown away with the service. 11/10. A magical place.
I loved my stay here. The gardens are magical. The free breakfast was delicious. Dawn and Blair are lovely and super helpful. I got to see a cassowary for the first time. Highly recommend.
An example of excellent Hospitality. We were lucky enough to stay at this lodge for a couple of nights in March 2020. We were impressed with the impeccably clean rooms, wonderful garden surroundings and friendly hosts. We also got to see one of only a few hundred rare Cassowaries wondering through the garden one morning which was super special. The lodge has a fantastic location surrounded by World Heritage rainforest on one side and the stunning beaches and the Great Barrier Reef on the other. We loved it at Licula Lodge and cannot wait to come back again.
Agree with all other positive reviews.Found this last minute, no regrets.Dawn and Blair are lovely hosts. This is a traditional bed and breakfast tucked up in the hills, surrounded by a lovely garden, full of life, wish we had time to enjoy it more. They also have a decent pool. The rooms are very close together, we shared our stay with some other travellers, we could not hear them throughout the night, we were also trying to be courteous to them by not going out of our way to be loud.Recommend to book direct, recommend to stay for more than 1 night, take a board game, some cards, a puzzle. Enjoy the deafening quiet, and the views of the cassowaries as they wonder through the garden.
Highly recommended! We found Licuala Lodge at the last minute - we needed a place to stay as we couldn't continue our travel due to road closures / flooding, and we found a gem!Licuala Lodge is a great place to stay in Mission Beach, away from the crowd, surrounded by nature and wildlife. The mock orange trees were in blossom giving out a nice fragrance when wandering in the lovely garden. A Cassowary and two chicks visited the lodge in the morning. The pool looks lovely too, unfortunately we didn't have the time to try as we'd need to continue driving on the following day. The room was spotless, comfortable and the breakfast was amazing! There was a shared guest lounge, kitchen and laundry facilities too if you need them.Owners (Dawn and Blair) were very friendly and they made sure we enjoyed our stay. And indeed we did have a relaxing stay, a much needed one after our travel disruption. We'd definitely stay at Licuala Lodge in the future when we're in the area. Thank you Dawn & Blair for the memorable stay!
This is five star accommodation. The owners went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay, even when their group of guests were very disorganised! The gardens are stunning, the pool divine and we even saw a cassowary on the grounds. And the breakfast....best in north Queensland. The hosts are so attentive to dietary requirements. I have much gratitude for Licuala Lodge for providing us a wonderful weekend in Mission Beach!
Owners, Dawn and Blair were amazing. They went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed a most relaxing, memorable stay.Nothing was too much trouble for these friendly, accommodating people. Rooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and superb breakfasts.Great pool, beautiful gardens.Highly recommended.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, albeit brief. The tranquility and loveliness of the surrounds superb. Our room was spotless, comfy king-size bed. Warm and friendly hosts, Dawn and Blair, prepared a delicious breakfast to start our day. Many thanks 😊
This is one of Mission Beach's hidden Gems. The rooms are immaculate and smell amazing. The owners go over and above in everyway and nothing is too much trouble. You are provided with a very generous scumpous breakfast and even asked if you need special food requirements etc. The lodge is in a beautiful rainforest setting, where you can get up close and personal with the amazing wildlife if you choose to. A truely relaxing stay for anyone who wants to feel the serenity and enjoy the surrounding beauty . The beach is a short walk or a 5 minute drive. I would highly recommend Licuala Lodge it will not be disappoint. Will definitely return.
Everything about our two night stay here was exactly as we had hoped. Relaxing atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, very well kept gardens and pool. Dawn and Blair are lovely, super friendly hosts and couldn’t do enough to help us to have a really lovely few nights. To top it off the breakfast was amazing. The little touches made the difference. Highly recommend.
Dawn & Blair really know how to look after you. Gave us good local knowledge for walks & eating, plus booked us in. Lovely to see a Cassowary walk past as we ate breakfast
Stayed at Licuala Lodge last night. What an oasis!!If you can picture an old-style Queenslander, fully renovated, in amongst a garden of Eden, you get a picture of what this place is like. Brilliant location close to everything. Okay, it’s not on the beach but you gain more than you lose. The gardens are well maintained and could be described as a piece of art with all of the different native trees in the yard. We didn’t go swimming but the pool is well maintained and looked inviting (a bit cold for us in winter at this time of year). The peacefulness of the area at night time is amazing and relaxing. The rooms are cleaned immaculately. The communal kitchen area is well stocked with everything you will need. Water pressure is great. We used the communal barbeque and it worked out great (Woolworths is a 3-minute drive).Dawn and Blair are fantastic people and so accommodating to any requests or needs.I am normally pretty harsh on my reviews, but Licuala Lodge didn’t let me down in any area.In fact, I’m already planning another trip back there when relatives come up from down south after COVID-19.
Welcoming and accommodating hosts. Peaceful, beautiful surrounds. Enough privacy so you don't feel as if you are an intruder in someone's home. Best of all: comfy bed! Thankyou to Dawn and Blair.
We stayed at the Licuala for two nights on our drive down the east coast, from the moment we arrived the owners were so friendly and welcoming. The rooms were lovely and clean and the beds very comfortable, the cost included breakfast which was excellent and you choose what to eat and how much, anyone travelling down the coast or wanting to stay somewhere wonderfully different must visit this amazing lodge. Pete and Jan,
Great place to stay. Cozy and tucked away in the nature, with a lovely garden and great hosts. We slept like angels and woke up to a breakfast with a view into the garden, self-made bread and anything else we would have wanted. Would stay here again!
Beautiful bed and breakfast set in the rain forest with kitchen, lounge and pool. Cassowaries visit fairly often and mission beach is a short drive away. Amazing breakfasts and friendly hosts, we hope to visit again one day!
